Men's 1st IV+

First Round v St. Catherine's

This was the first race against Cambridge opposition and so an opportunity for the 1st IV+ to test their strength.

After a poor first stroke the crew fought back and were pushing away from St Catherine's before the end of First Post Reach, showing an ability to recover from set-backs which is quickly becoming a characteristic of this crew. The line round Grassy Corner was wider than might have been hoped, but the crew were nevertheless ahead at the first time-check on Plough Reach. By the second time-check on the Long Reach, the crew had stretched the lead and a final push to the finish sealed the victory.

Quarter-Final v Emmanuel

Emmanuel scratched, putting the 1st IV+ through to the semi-final.

Semi-Final v Caius

Since the draw was published the crew had always known that this would be the big race for them, and so it proved as THBC came up against the headship crew in the semi-final.

Off the start the 1st IV+ where closing the distance on Caius, this continued round First Post Corner and into the Gut. However, coming out of Grassy Corner, Caius raised their rating by 4. Although THBC put in their own push out of the corner, but were unable to match Caius's increased pace. By the second time-check the 1st IV+ were behind and they were unable to recover.

The race was very tough for both crews, and THBC should be pleased that they were able to push the headship crew so hard.

Women's Uni IVs first IV+

Lost to St Catharine's in first round

St Catharine's took an early lead of a little less than half a length, but Trinity Hall held steady in this position down the reach. However, lack of fitness allowed St Catharine's to increase their lead between the railway bridge and the finish.
