Race Results

The climax of novice racing: after completing it novices become senior rowers. This head race runs from the Jesus boathouse to Ditton corner.

Novice Men's 1st VIII

38th overall in the men's division

We had a reasonably tame start but managed to keep going at a good stroke rate for the entire race. Technique sort of fell apart at the reach but we had a strong finish and almost caught Jesus nm2 who were in front of us. A few strokes without blades being fully squared definitely slowed us down but it was a good end to the term and considering the amount of training we got in it was a pretty decent effort.

Novice Men's 2nd VIII

Joint 2nd in Division

NM2 had a race plan, and they executed it well. In their first race over a long distance there was a risk that the crew would forget their technique and training, but this did not happen. They kept their heads and responded to all of the calls from the cox.

NM2 started well and made their first push off the Flyover. The speed of the crew was evident in the fact that they were soon within sight of Emmanuel NM2, who had started a full minute ahead. NM2 kept gaining on them over the rest of the course. The crew battled through a tough patch between the Green Dragon footbridge and the railway bridge and managed to bring the rate up to a blistering 34 down the Reach to the finish.

The crew achieved a time of 10:39.8, meaning that under Fairbairns' rules they finish joint 2nd in their division and, as only Anglia Ruskin placed higher, joint 1st Cambridge college in the division.
